The John Muir Award

"The John Muir Award is an environmental Award Scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration."

Plas Gwynant is a group member of the John Muir Trust, and a provider of the John Muir Award at the Discovery Award level. We offer the Award to all our year 6 courses, with students completing diaries each evening that reflect the work they have done during the day. The Award complements the activities that we have always done at the Centre, and focuses students towards the wild environments which help shape so much of the experience at Plas Gwynant. There are four essential elements to the Award: discover - explore - conserve - share. Throughout the course students are encouraged to consider these elements within the activities that they are undertaking.

While the Award is offered to all our year 6 courses, it naturally fits in with many of the courses we organise. We have successfully provided the Award to a number of Special Educational Needs establishments, as well as some year 10 and 12 courses.

If you would like to complete the John Muir Award as part of your course, please contact the centre.
